4 Reasons to Make the Switch to Organic Skin Care

Skin care products that are USDA Certified Organic are required to contain at least 95 percent or more of organic ingredients. You can feel good about using these ingredients on your skin because they’re grown without pesticides, bioengineered genes, or petroleum-based fertilizers – all of which can be harmful to you and the environment.

1. We Are What We Put on Our Skin (For the Most Part)

Our skin is our largest organ and one of the most important. Acting as your immune system’s first line of defense, it’s usually an effective barrier at keeping the nasties (like harmful pathogens and environmental toxicants) out –but sometimes chemicals sneak by and can do some damage. Researchsuggests that phthalates, commonly found in nail polish, hair sprays, aftershave lotions, soaps, shampoos, perfumes and other fragrance preparations, have endocrine disrupting properties that may increase the risk of reproductive issues in both women and men. Because FDA regulations are pretty lax when it comes to cosmetics, it is essential to do your research and be aware of the most beneficial organic ingredients for your skin.

2. More Active Ingredients

Organic skin care products typically don’t contain as many fillers when compared to conventional skin care products, leaving room for more of the beneficial, active ingredients that may help you reach your skin care goals faster.

3. Cost Effective

There are no water fillers, making the organic skin care like concentrated orange juice. For most products, you add a little bit of water to your hands, emulsify and apply to face. By using smaller amounts of your product, you can make your products last much longer - making more bang for your buck.

4. Helps Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Many companies that are passionate about using organic ingredients are also passionate about sustainability. For instance, the company that I work with plants a tree for every product their client buys. In my opinion, organic farming is better all around: better for people, wildlife, and our environment.
